Packaging that protects – and respects the planet

TotalEnergies Corbion introduces more sustainable packaging for Luminy® PLA

GORINCHEM, 28th October 2025 – TotalEnergies Corbion, a global leader in bioplastics, has announced a new step toward circularity with the launch of redesigned bags for Luminy® PLA, featuring 30% post-industrial recycled (PIR) content in the outer layer.

The initiative reflects the company’s commitment to sustainability – not only through the sugarcane-based PLA it produces, but also through the way it operates and packages its products.

“Sustainability doesn’t stop with what’s inside the bag – it extends to how we deliver it,” said Monda van Eijl, Senior Product Manager at TotalEnergies Corbion. “By incorporating recycled content into our packaging, we’re reducing waste, saving resources, and lowering our overall carbon footprint”.

Smarter Packaging, Lower Impact

Each new Luminy® PLA big bag now includes 30% PIR material in its outer layer, repurposing high-quality manufacturing scraps that would otherwise go to waste.

The benefits include:

  • Less waste: PIR material gives new life to industrial by-products that might otherwise be landfilled or incinerated.
  • Lower carbon footprint: Reduced use of virgin raw materials cuts emissions across the packaging supply chain.
  • Resource efficiency: A smarter, circular use of materials—while maintaining the same protection and performance for Luminy® PLA.

This upgrade underscores TotalEnergies Corbion’s ongoing efforts to embed sustainability across its operations – from biobased, low-carbon PLA production to responsible logistics and packaging design.

By choosing Luminy® PLA, customers already support biobased, recyclable, and compostable solutions that help reduce the world’s dependence on fossil resources. With the new bag design, they also contribute to minimizing packaging waste and promoting circular material use.
