Morph bricks empowered by Luminy® PLA
Workplaces, schools, and events are demanding interiors that can easily be modified and adapted to different configurations, while generating less waste, and demonstrating sustainability. Morph Bricks, made from biobased PLA developed by TotalEnergies Corbion and Floreon, provide a fresh solution: modular bricks that lock together to create everything from desks and counters to meeting pods, exhibition walls, and even tiered seating.
Unlike other eco-modular systems that specialize in either partitions or furniture, PLA Morph Bricks are designed to do both. They offer the strength of ABS-like plastics with a significant lower carbon footprint, while remaining endlessly reconfigurable. Bricks connect without tools, or adhesives, making them quick to assemble, simple to dismantle, and easy to reuse across multiple projects.
Why PLA makes the difference
Most modular systems rely on metals, wood, or conventional plastics. PLA Morph Bricks take a different path, using polylactic acid (PLA), a biobased plastic made from renewable resources such as sugarcane. In practice, this means:
- Lower carbon footprint. Modern PLA grades like Luminy® PLA offer substantially reduced carbon footprints compared to conventional plastics; Luminy® recycled PLA or rPLA offers an even lower carbon footprint.
- Monomaterial simplicity. A single-material system makes end-of-life pathways clear: reuse first, then recycle.
- Cleaner indoor presence. PLA parts are moulded to final form—no laminates, adhesives, or composite boards—reducing material mixing and waste.
A collaboration driving innovation
Three leaders in sustainable materials and advanced polymers—TotalEnergies Corbion, Floreon, and Morph Bricks—have joined forces to deliver this breakthrough.
- TotalEnergies Corbion, a global bioplastics leader, produces Luminy® PLA, a 100% biobased plastic from responsibly sourced raw materials. Renowned for its versatility, Luminy® PLA can be processed in multiple ways and tailored for durability, mechanical performance, and resistance to environmental conditions.
- Floreon, based in the UK, specializes in flame-retardant, high-impact polymers. Their Therma-Tech compound, containing Luminy® PLA, has been formulated into robust building bricks that meet demanding safety standards
- Morph Bricks integrate this compound into their patented click-brick system, combining modular design flexibility with a circular materials strategy.
Together, they combine a sustainable material, flame-retardant performance, and circular design to redefine sustainable interiors.
See it live at K 2025
At the K Show 2025, visitors can experience Morph Bricks firsthand – our TotalEnergies Corbion booth has elements built with this modular, biobased system. It’s a living example of how spaces can be created, adapted, and reused with a lower carbon footprint. Alongside the booth, other applications of Luminy® PLA will showcase how biobased materials deliver both performance and sustainability.
